When Pope John Paul II was ordained as the Pope in 1978, he became the first non-Italian Pope in almost 400 years. The whole of Poland celebrated his appointment and even till this day, he continues to be a source of great pride for the people of the country. During the tour, you will first visit Kalwaria Zebrydowska, a pilgrimage park which is known to have been frequently visited by Pope John Paul II to relax.
Next, we take you to the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy, which is dedicated to the Divine Mercy devotion and the resting place of St. Faustyna Kowalska. She was canonized by Pope John Paul II in the year 2000. The site receives 2 million visitors every year.
The next site on your tour itinerary is the Museum Family House of the Holy Father John Paul II in Wadowice. This is the place where he grew up and it includes a number of items which are reminiscent of the Pope’s life, including a gun which was used in 1981 in an attempt to take Pope John Paul II’s life. You will find every shop in the town sells kremowka, a local cream cake which is known to have been popularized by the Pope during his visit to Wadowice in 1999 when he mentioned how much he loved kremowka when he was a young boy.
